Planting Time

The garden is being planted over the week and into the weekend. A week early this year. so far we had a nice gentle soaking rain which saved me from watering. Hopefully the tomatoes and the last of the potatoes will go in. Looks like I need to make a extra row to accommodate a few leftover  favorites. I have extra plants if anyone has an interest.

Greenhouse producing some nice plants

The greenhouse is doing its job. Many tomatoes and peppers and some flowers. Had a chance to get my onions in early this year. Set the table and chairs up so cold drinks seem to always seem to slow me down. Have to sit and chat with the girls all the time. Onions arrived yesterday and was able to get them in the ground.

Garden season has started

Started the season out making some raised beds . See how far I go with that. Quite time consuming hauling compost in the S-10. The green house has been opened for the year and its being filled fast. Been transplanting from 200 cell trays into six packs. Quite a variety of tomato and pepper plants. Waiting to see how the WHITE BEAUTY tomato turns out. Below find a few pictures to see what has been going on. As I plant I'll show you the progress.

March at Morgan

Its been a long winter and cold to boot. Now that spring has come we are still seeing snow and feeling the cold chill our bones. The snow still covers the landscape but looks like it disappears a little each day. We'll hit the 50's this week, but we need some sun to go along with the higher temperature. Have a few indoor projects to finish then hopefully out to enjoy the yard. Pups just as soon be out there also.

There is about 6 inches of snow covering the garden which has a nice bed of leaves.

Even Rylee is tired of walking in the deep snow. But just the same she waits till I put the leash on and off we go. She has one of the best noses around. A true hunter she is.

Life in the woods is quiet when we go through. Lots of tracks, mostly squirrels a few deer and a fox once in awhile.

Rosie just wants out all the time. No matter what the weather is she is always at the door telling us to open it. If you tone her out she sits in front of you and stares you down as she is doing while I type. Every day I secretly thank Margaret for bringing them into our home.

Not too much going on with Kate. She is starting to show her age just like me. She is still up for a good walk and love to show her baritone bark with the neighbor's dog is out. She has been here 1st.
The wood are quiet and just awaiting for the work to go on. As soon as I can drive in the backyard, Stanley will be pulling out the logs. Going to need some young help on this project. Any volunteers?

Everything awaits a new birth . Seeds have been planted and the pepper are about 3 inches tall already. I have a few flowers that germinated also and need to get them in the greenhouse. Tomatoes were started yesterday, about 13 different varieties thanks to Jenny, Sara and friends from the forum. Always glad to see extra seeds in the mail. Hopefully next month I'll have some greenhouse pictures along with the rows drawn out in the garden. Onions from Dixondale should arrive soon along with the blueberry bushes from Start Brothers. Compost season opens next week along with the trout fishing season. Can spring really be here after this long drawn out winter? I hope so. As they say in the old country        DO VIANJA

Cold and Snowy February

Its been a long winter so far and its still only February. Snow all the time and more on its way. Will it  ever end? Banks are piling up all over. It seems it hasn't been this cold and snowed so much as it has this season. In another month I'll be starting my seedlings hopefully. If you look at the following pictures you might question my sanity. I figure through the miracle of time warm weather is on its way.
Rylee hopes the good weather comes soon also.

Last Chance

Well its 12-31-13 and taking care of some brush and tree removal before the bad weather hits us. As you can see in earlier posts I brought lots of trees and branches to the opening path of the orchard. Had the opportunity to get it all chipped up so I went  for it. Now during a winter thaw I might be able to get back in there. The chips can be used for mulch or even out the path way. As I type now the weather has been below zero with a good windchill, so now it time to enjoy all the firewood I cut and split. Nothing like wood heat.  Happy New Year all and enjoy the upcoming year.
Jason giving me a hand chipping the wood up.

Most of the brush is gone and path way open.

Result a fine pile of pine chips.

Orchard work halted

We have had some real cold weather with no snow. Excellent for working in the back woods cutting up the trees that were felled. Been cutting them up into lengths that one person can handle. Some might go to the mill for some rough cut lumber. Some of the waste will be chipped and some will be hauled off in a dumpster, Trying to get two front end loaders and some help in the spring to complete the job. My work has been put on hold now as it is snowing real hard out there thanks to lake Ontario. Up in Osceola over three days 5 feet of it has covered the landscape. The pups love running through the fresh snow and it sure keeps them clean. Kate on the other hand likes to watch it out of the patio doors.

In the following pictures you can judge for yourself if I'm making any progress. Hope you enjoy them.
